Away Mode FAQ

Straight answers about what Away Mode does, what it doesn't, and what it costs.

Does my store stay on Google while I'm away?

Yes. Away Mode doesn't hide pages, add a password or change your theme's SEO tags. Every product, collection and page stays live, so search engines keep crawling and indexing them. Only the buying controls change.

Can shoppers still browse my products?

Yes, in both modes. In Pause orders mode they see your products and prices with your message where the buy buttons were. In Accept orders mode they can buy as normal and see a notice with the date shipping resumes.

Can a shopper still place an order while orders are paused?

Usually not, but it's possible. Pause orders works at the storefront level: it hides buy buttons, quick-add, dynamic checkout buttons and the cart's checkout button. A determined shopper with a saved checkout link, or a theme that adds buy buttons in unusual places, could still get an order through. If that happens, Away Mode tags the order away-mode-order and emails you so you can contact the customer or refund it.

Does it affect Shopify POS?

No. Away Mode only changes your online store. Point of Sale and in-person sales aren't affected.

Can I schedule more than one away period?

One at a time. When a period ends (or you end or cancel it), you can set up the next one. Past periods are kept in your history with their dates and settings.

Which timezone are the dates in?

Your store's timezone, the one set in your Shopify admin settings. Away Mode checks every minute, so it turns on and off within about a minute of the times you chose.

Does Away Mode edit my theme code?

No. It works through a theme app embed that you switch on once in the theme editor; the app gives you a link straight to it. Your theme files aren't changed, and uninstalling removes Away Mode cleanly.

Which themes does it work with?

Online Store 2.0 themes (tested on Dawn-based themes and Horizon) and vintage themes (tested on Debut). If something looks wrong on your theme, email support@oakandlever.com.

How much does it cost?

$4.99 per year, with a 30-day free trial, billed through Shopify. There's one plan with every feature in it, and the price never increases for existing merchants.

How do I cancel?

Uninstall Away Mode from the Apps page of your Shopify admin. That cancels the subscription through Shopify, removes the storefront embed and stops all activity right away.

How do I email the people who signed up to be notified?

Sign-ups from the “Notify me when you're back” form become customers in your Shopify store, tagged away-mode-subscriber and with email marketing consent. Build a segment on that tag in Shopify Email or Klaviyo and send them a “we're back” email when you reopen.

What do customers see on orders placed while I'm away?

In Accept orders mode, each order gets an attribute called Shipping resumes with your reopening date. You see it on the order in your admin, and you can add it to your order confirmation template so the customer has it in writing.
