Daily Small Talk

Daily Small Talk privacy policy

Effective October 26, 2026

Daily Small Talk gives you one good thing to say each day. It has no account, no sign-in, no analytics and no advertising. Everyone downloads the same day's cards, and the app picks yours on your phone, so we never learn which topics you like or what you save.

What we collect

Nothing about you. We do not collect, sell or store any personal information.

What stays on your device

The following is saved in the app's own storage on your iPhone and never sent to us:

  • Your topics, spice level, number of cards a day and sensitive-topics setting
  • Your reminder setting and time
  • Cards you save, and which cards you have already seen
  • Whether you have unlocked the full version

Some of this is shared with the Today's Card widget so it can show the same card. That happens inside your own device. Deleting the app deletes all of it.

How the daily cards arrive

Once a day our server reads public headlines from news sites such as NPR, the BBC and the Guardian, and from Wikipedia's “On this day”, and uses Google's Gemini model to turn them into conversation starters. That process involves no information about any reader.

The app then downloads the day's cards with a plain request that carries no identifier, no account, no location and none of your preferences. Like any website, our hosting provider (Vercel) may briefly keep standard server logs, such as the IP address a request came from, for security and reliability. We do not use them to identify you.

Other connections

  • Learn more links. Tapping one opens the original article in an in-app browser. From there you are on that publisher's website and their privacy policy applies.
  • App updates. The app asks Expo's update service whether a newer version of its content is available. That request carries the app version and device platform, nothing about you. Expo's privacy policy is at expo.dev/privacy.

Notifications

If you turn on the daily reminder, it is scheduled on your iPhone. We don't send push notifications and never receive a notification token.

Purchases

The one-time purchase that unlocks the full version is handled entirely by Apple. We never see your name, Apple Account or payment details; the app only learns whether the purchase exists on your device.

What we don't do

  • No analytics or tracking of how you use the app.
  • No advertising.
  • No selling or sharing of personal data.
  • No accounts, so there is nothing for us to delete.

Children

Daily Small Talk is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
