Ink & Ash

Notes that lock, and don’t stay.

Some things you need to write down but don’t want lying around. Ink & Ash keeps them behind Face ID, on this iPhone only, out of every screenshot, and erases them at the time you choose.

Wi-Fi password is on the fridge.

Key goes back under the blue pot on Sunday.

A drawn example. The real one won’t show up in a screenshot.

Locked three ways

Face ID or your passcode opens it. Nothing else does.

This iPhone only. The note lives in the Keychain, where iOS keeps passwords: encrypted, never synced to iCloud, left out of backups.

Out of the picture. Screenshots, screen recordings and the app switcher get the home screen instead of your words. If your version of iOS can’t do that, Settings says so.

It burns on schedule

Every note carries a countdown. Choose when it goes; tap the countdown to change your mind. At zero it erases itself.

Or turn on Erase After Reading, and it doesn’t wait for zero: the note is wiped the moment you lock the phone or leave the app.

Erased means gone. No recently-deleted folder, no backup, no copy with us.

Passed hand to hand

Start a shared note and you get an eight-character code.

Read it out, and the other person joins from their own iPhone to read and write with you, live. Joining is always free.

The note is encrypted on your phone before anything leaves it, with a key our server never sees. Even the code stays with you; only a value derived from it is sent, and it can’t be turned back into the code. When the session expires, what little the server kept is deleted.

What it costs

Keeping a note to yourself is free, with the preset erase times and Erase After Reading. Joining someone else’s shared note is free.

One purchase, not a subscription, lets you start as many shared notes as you like and set an exact erase time.

No account, no analytics, no ads, no tracking. The privacy policy is short.

Questions

Why does it need a passcode?

Your note is locked behind Face ID or your device passcode, so it can’t run on an iPhone without one. Turn it on in Settings → Face ID & Passcode, then open the app again.

Why are my screenshots of it blank?

On purpose. Screenshots, screen recordings and the app switcher see the app’s home screen, not your note. It can’t be turned off.

Can I get an erased note back?

No. The app keeps no copy, and neither do we, because we never had one.

I paid. Why does it say locked?

Open the paywall and tap Restore Purchase under the price. That’s also how to unlock it on another iPhone or after reinstalling.
