Ink & Ash

Ink & Ash support

Ink & Ash is a notes app for things you don't want sitting around. Every note is behind Face ID or your passcode, stays on your device, and erases itself at a time you choose.

Getting started

Your device needs a passcode. Ink & Ash locks your note behind Face ID or your device passcode, so it cannot run without one. If the app says to set a passcode, go to Settings → Face ID & Passcode → Turn Passcode On, then reopen the app.

Common questions

My screenshots of the app come out blank.

That's deliberate. Your note is excluded from screenshots, screen recordings and the app switcher preview, so anyone capturing your screen sees the app's home screen rather than what you wrote. There is no way to turn this off.

My note disappeared.

Notes erase themselves at the time shown on the countdown. Tap the countdown to change when that is. If “Erase After Reading” is on in Settings, the note is wiped as soon as you lock the device or leave the app, rather than waiting for the deadline. Erased notes cannot be recovered: the app keeps no copy and neither do we.

How do shared notes work?

Starting a shared note gives you an eight-character code. Anyone with that code can join from their own iPhone and read and edit the note live. Joining is always free and needs no purchase. The note is encrypted on your device before it is sent, so only people who joined with the code can read it. We can't.

What does the purchase include?

One payment, not a subscription. It unlocks starting as many shared notes as you like, and choosing an exact erase time rather than one of the presets. Keeping a note to yourself is free forever, and so is joining a shared note someone else started.

I paid but the app says it's locked.

Open the paywall and tap Restore Purchase under the price. That re-checks your Apple Account, which is also how to unlock the app on a second device or after reinstalling.

Still stuck?

Email support@oakandlever.com and describe what happened. Please don't include the contents of a note you want kept private.
