Stash privacy policy

Effective October 26, 2026

Stash: Where I Put It remembers where you put things, and it keeps that to itself. There is no account, no sign-in, no server of ours, no analytics and no advertising. We never receive your photos, your notes or what you search for.

What we collect

Nothing. We do not collect, receive, sell or store any personal information.

Where your data lives

What you stash (each photo, the place and note you add, the labels and text Stash reads from the photo, and when it was moved) is stored:

  • on your iPhone, in the app's own storage and a storage area shared with Stash's widgets and Siri shortcuts, and
  • in your own iCloud account, if you are signed in to iCloud, so your stash syncs across your devices. This uses Apple's CloudKit and Apple's privacy policy applies. We cannot read it.

Photos are re-saved without their original metadata, so the location embedded by your camera is not kept.

Deleting an item removes it everywhere it is synced. Deleting the app removes what is stored on that device; to remove the iCloud copy, delete your items in the app or manage Stash's data under Settings → [your name] → iCloud.

On-device recognition

Stash uses Apple's Vision framework on your iPhone to recognise what is in a photo and read any text in it, so you can search for it later. On iPhones with Apple Intelligence, questions you ask in search are answered by Apple's on-device model. None of this is sent to us or to anyone else.

Household sharing

If you share a household, Apple's iCloud sharing makes those items visible to the people you invite. They can see, add and move items, and the name you set in Stash is shown on what you add or move. Deleting a shared item deletes it for everyone in the household. You choose who is invited, and you can stop sharing at any time.

Hidden items

Items you hide are unlocked with Face ID or your passcode, and their text and thumbnails are left out of Spotlight search.

Permissions

  • Camera, to photograph where you put something.
  • Photos, to add a photo you already took.
  • Face ID, to unlock hidden items.

Stash never asks for your location, contacts or microphone.

The only outbound connection

When you open the app it asks Expo's update service whether a newer version of the app's content is available. That request carries the app version and device platform and nothing you have stashed. Expo's privacy policy is at expo.dev/privacy. iCloud syncing, described above, is handled by Apple.

What we don't do

  • No analytics or tracking of how you use the app.
  • No advertising.
  • No selling or sharing of personal data.
  • No accounts, so there is nothing for us to delete.

Children

Stash is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
